NPoCUS
Scientific Programme
  DAY 1 - Saturday 5th December
A key feature of NPOCUS 2008 was our hands-on training days - the Course-within-the-Congress programme. This reflects the fact that in point-of-care ultrasound, the main agenda will be training to get people practising for the short and intermediate term. In the long term, we envisage more specialist/research bias.

The CwtC programmes also provide some recognition of structured 'foundation' training in a particular area of practice. Hence delegates get to take away training documentation (as they would do if they went on a specific study day) as well as attending scientific sessions on other days as part of the wider conference programme.

As most of the key training/sessions are on the Saturday, delegates cannot book Saturday on its own. It must be booked with another conference day. Sunday or Monday can be booked on their own.
TIME Workshops
09.00   NPoCUS Registration, Welcome & Integrated Workshops
- these integrated workshops will be delivered by an experienced international faculty
09.30 - 17.30   College of Emergency Medicine Level 1

This integrated workshop is aimed at clinicians in the field of emergency medicine. The content of the workshop is in line with the College of Emergency Medicine curriculum and provides the practitioner with the core skills and knowledge of Level 1: FAST, AAA, the heart in cardiac arrest and vascular access scanning. This workshop will be led by experienced CEM faculty.
Echocardiography for Emergency Medicine & Critical Care

Aimed at clinicians in critical care and emergency medicine, this workshop provides the knowledge behind the use of focused echocardiography at the point of care. In addition, we will introduce the skills with plenty of hands on sessions on normal and abnormal models. The workshop will be led by experienced international faculty.
Ultrasound in the Undifferentiated Shocked Patient

This workshop is aimed at clinicians who regularly manage patients with undifferentiated shock. Focusing on a structured technique for evaluating various body regions, major causes of shock should be easier to quickly identify and treat. International experts will be leading this session.
Ultrasound for Acute Physicians

From management of acute medical conditions assessment of patients in clinic and on the ward, this workshop will provide a foundation in the use of ultrasound as a clinical adjunct. This will cover focused echo, chest, vascular access and more. The workshop will be led by an international faculty.
Introduction to Ultrasound for Surgeons

Point of Care ultrasound can provide many advantages for surgeons in their day to day practice. This integrated workshop will cover the theory and practice of key areas such as ultrasound guided line placement, evaluation of the abdominal aorta, detection of free intraabdominal fluid. The workshop will be led by an international faculty.

Further to Saturday 5th December, NPoCUS 2009 will be held jointly with Euroson 2009. The sessions most appropriate to NPoCUS delegates are shown on the programme below, but you will be free to attend any other scientific sessions held as part of Euroson. Proffered papers for NPoCUS will be fitted into any free sessions.
